‘Swirl’ is a glass topped coffee table with a timber base made from 24 triangular pieces of Victorian Ash. Inspired by the seed pods of the desert sheoak, the design uses triangles ‘leaning’ to one side edged jointed to create a sense of dynamism, recalling pleated material in movement.
The clear glass top allows the viewer to appreciate the geometric forms of the base, and the interplay of light and shadow of angled planes of Victorian Ash. Photo: Randal Kohn.
Custom made fine furniture
My reason for making furniture is the satisfaction from designing an original piece and then bringing it into being. I think of my work more as an artistic endeavour rather than simply manufacturing. That’s why I don’t make copies of other work.
I like to work with clients collaboratively, first discussing style, size, materials and broad ideas. We might sketch some rough concepts, and once you’ve agreed on an outline, we then work through the design details until you are happy. See here for full terms and conditions.
